Weld Inspection Platforms for Automotive Assembly

Client Need:

Comau needed a company to develop and provide weld inspection stations for Stellantis factories. Previous inspection stations were heavy, clunky, and hydraulically operated.

Solution:

Spika worked closely with the Comau/Stellantis team to develop the systems required for each automobile model, ensure all performance and contractual requirements were met, and provide all required documentation. The resulting work platforms were lightweight and elegantly designed and able to provide the technicians with complete ergonomic access for weld inspection. Controls included position feedback and monitoring, maintenance mode lockout, and the prevention of slide adjustment at specific platform heights.

Spika provided the units as turnkey systems, which were then integrated by Comau and Stellantis into the plant assembly lines and facility safety systems.

Technical Information:

• Non-hydraulic lift platforms that could provide complete, ergonomic worker access for weld inspection and verification.
• Access to the auto body at various positions via electrically actuated height adjustability of 50 inches.
• An electrically actuated slide to access the rear of the auto body.
• Extensive controls and safety systems that had to integrate into existing facilities.
